Playing with Fire

The July issue of The Corridor is out!!! It features an article about my year as Mrs. Payne County and my platform of Fire Prevention & Safety for children. It is a great article and has a lot of life saving information in it!!!

Recently I was able to attend and participate at the annual 4th of July weekend Perkins Rodeo. I was asked to ride in the grand entry and to also ride in between events and the announcer spoke about my year and my platform. It was a lot of fun and I am grateful for the opportunity!! : )

Thankful for this opportunity

Well this past week has been eventful! I was interviewed by Jackie Mileham from The Corridor Magazine and she also did a photo shoot of me, my husband, Dusty, and our son, Landon. The shoot went great despite the Oklahoma wind not cooperating! The article will be out the first week of July. I am looking forward to it!

I was invited to speak to the Perkins Chamber of Commerce today at noon. I was able to meet with many community leaders, and get more information about my platform out there. Since speaking today, I have been asked to speak with many other community organizations and to prepare a week long schedule for the Internediate School focused around Fire Prevention & Safety. This will take place during Fire Prevention week, and I already have tons of ideas! :) I am very thankful to the open arms of kindness I have recieved and can't wait to get things rolling!

Boots & Bikes 2009

This past weekend I was able to attend and participate in the 1st annual Boots & Bikes Poker Run. Nearly 200 people with motorcycles gathered in Stillwater for a Boots and Bikes Poker Run to honor former Stillwater Deputy Fire Marshal Charles "Chuck" Anaya, who died in 2007. Chuck died a line-of-duty death from cancer a year and a half ago at the age of 50. Oklahoma firefighters who die from cardiac disease, pulmonary disease or cancer are considered to have died in the line of duty because of the toxic atmospheres they face during their careers.

I was lucky enough to grow up knowing Chuck, and remember him as a great guy, always with a smiling face. He also made the BEST tamales know to man! :) He was a loving father, husband, and friend and will be remembered for that.

About $6,000 of the proceeds from the Poker Run went toward a scholarship fund set up in Chuck’s name to help children of Stillwater firefighters with college expenses. Education was important to Chuck, who loved to teach children about fire safety.

Busy, Busy, Busy!!!

Well the past few weeks have been a little hectic, but I am so glad they have been. I was able to attend the 3rd annual Pistol Pete Market Days in Perkins, OK. It was a little chilly, but I am so glad I got to go! They have some amazing stuff at the Territorial Plaza, and many great plans they are going to be starting on soon!!

I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Cindy Sheets with The Perkins Journal. She is doing a feature article and it should be in the May 20th paper. I can't wait to read it . I know she did great!

I have also been contacted by an Oklahoma magazine, and will appear in the July issue of that! I will keep you updated on the article and when it should be out.

I was able to get my scores from the Mrs. Oklahoma International 2009 pageant in the mail today. I am glad that I received a few comments and it will give me a few ideas of what to work on for the next pageant. I think for my very first pageant ever that I did good. I had no idea what to expect and after seeing my scores and reading the few comments that I did get, I am happy with myself.

I have enjoyed my 1st month as Mrs. Payne County 2010, and I have many upcoming plans and appearances. I am really looking forward to the summer and my birthday ( 1 week left!! )

Mrs. Oklahoma International 2009 Pageant

As most of you know, I just competed in my first pageant in Stillwater and had a complete blast. I competed under the title of Mrs. Stillwater International 2009. I won Mrs. Photogenic at the pageant, and met some incredible women in the process. Since I met so many great and interesting ladies that day, and had so much fun getting ready for the pageant that I am doing it again next year. I will be carrying the title of Mrs. Payne County International 2010 for the next year. The pageant will be held March 6 & 7 at the Stillwater Community Center. It will be an exciting year of getting ready and pushing my platform of Fire Prevention & Safety for Children.

Since I have a lot more time to make appearances and speak with children and adults I know that even if I walk away with no award or crown that I have changed someone's life and for that chance I am grateful.

I will be making as many appearances as I possibly can, but if there is an event going on that would would like me to attend, or help with please let me know! I would love the chance to get out to the community as much as possible. I want to represent Payne County and get as much information out there about the pageant and my platform as possible.

Thanks to all who have supported me the past year and for the upcoming year. You are helping to make my dreams come true. I love you all.
